Meet Jerry

I’ve been a lawyer for 30 years, and retired from a federal practice in DC in 2017.  I launched my private practice — Gerald J. Langan, PLLC — here in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia, and offer general litigation and mediation services statewide, based in Hardy county.

I also retired from a military practice with the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps in 2015, where over the course of a 30-year career (both active and reserve) I served as an Army Lawyer on legal assignments worldwide.  A veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, I hold combat decorations from the conflicts in Kuwait and Afghanistan.  

I have an extensive litigation background, and am admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in West Virginia.  I am also a member of the District of Columbia bar.  

My professional interest in mediation was first sparked by Professor Tom Patrick of WVU who introduced me to the subject through the state bar mediation program in Flatwoods, WV.  I went on to co-mediate a number of cases with Professor Patrick, and to complete certificate programs at law schools around the country.  I believe in the benefits of mediation, and put those beliefs into practice.

As a part-year resident of the Potomac Highlands for some 15 years, the decision to relocate my private practice to the Mountain State came naturally — there is much to be said for the great state of West Virginia and its fine people.  If my firm can be of assistance to you with any of your legal or dispute resolution needs, please feel free to contact us at your convenience.
